Col. Billy Garrett of the Union Station police precinct has sent us the following information about last night's shooting. Police are looking for a gold four-door Camry. The gunman asked for directions of the victim but did not demand anything. Police are actively working this case and believe the victim to be in non-critical condition at this time. We are grateful to hear that the victim is expected to recover.
Most importantly Col. Garrett's advice to everyone across the city--not just in Midtown is this: "Please encourage our residents to walk with others and avoid walking alone. We have had a lot of violent incidents city-wide recently."
Please pass this message to your friends across the city. Violent crime is happening in all zip codes. And invite a friend to our next Midtown Security Community meeting on next Thursday, April 23, at HopeWorks in the basement of the Midtown Church of Christ at the corner of Union and Tucker (across from Union Station). Refreshments start at 5:00 with our meeting from
5:30-6:30. Col. Garrett will be there with updates on "Crime Stats and Successes" from the past month. We will also welcome Sheriff Mark Luttrell to talk about initiatives his department is involved in to keep us safe.
"Be part of the solution! Help keep Midtown AND Memphis a safe place to live and work."
Best,
Peggy Williamson
